Introduction to Artistic Research

In this seminar, you will share your research project and learn more about other PhD students’ ongoing artistic research. We will begin a discussion about artistic research in general and ways of sharing artistic research. You will meet a current PhD student and a recently finished PhD student; and you will be briefly introduced to the notion of research ethics.

How to join the seminar?

You will reiceve invitation to register for the seminar by E-mail. 

 

What to prepare?

  1. Read: On the Field of Artistic Research. Here you will find a brief history of the Norwegian Artistic Research Program, as well as notions and insights into the role of research on, for, and in the arts. The page includes mandatory and optional reading and media material on the history and development of the field of Artistic Research, together with links for associated research platforms.
  2. Hand in: A short bio and a short project abstract, including keywords: Format: Plain text in an e-mail and images in jpeg or similar formats;  videos, sounds, and links may also be included. The bio/abstract will be published on this site: Artistic Research PhD studentsYou can update your bio/abstract as often as you would like by sending us a new version.
  3. Bring: In the seminar, you will be asked to share your artistic research project in max. 6 minutes. No technical equipment is offered – bring an object, a print, a sound, a movement. Don´t try to tell or show us everything; make us curious, give us a glimpse, or let us understand why the project matters to you.

An illustration (e.g. sound, image, animation, video…)

 

This material will be made publicly available and shared with the fellows and contributors in the coming modules and the Artistic Research Forums. You will be offered the opportunity to update the material before each module and forum, and you can also update your bio and abstract in between, by sending new versions to pku@hkdir.noPlease submit the written material in a word document. Other material can be sent in the most appropriate format.
