PhD students in Artistic Research

Note!

The Norwegian Artistic Research School is in 2024-2025 reorganising from five seminars to four modules. PhD students who did start in the Research School before the study year 2024-2025, and only miss the last seminar or ARF, will still use the former course plan. Please read the course plan and find information here about the seminars in the old strucure.

The Norwegian Artistic Research School is always excited to welcome new PhD students from all Norwegian higher education institutions in the Arts, into its growing research community. Every new PhD student is not only offered professional training and a space for sharing knowledge, but constitutes an important contribution to an evolving research environment that aim to innovate artistic research across artistic disciplines and methods.

Mandatory Activites for PhD students

Through four interconnected modules The Norwegian Artistic Research School gives PhD students an introduction to methods, theory and ethics in artistic research, as well as training in disseminating the results of artistic research. Through these four modules, and the Artistic Research Forums, the research fellows’ artistic PhD projects are supported and included in a larger network offering professional depth and breadth.

As PhD student you must complete all four modules. You must also participate in four (eventually five) Artistic Research Forums.

The four modules have different but interrelated focus areas:

Module 1: Introduction to the Norwegian Artistic Research School and Artistic Research

Module 2: Methods, Sharing & Documentation

Module 3: Ethics, Relations & Context

Module 4: The PhD result
