ARTikulationen interweaves in-depth presentations of very recent artistic research and findings, a festival character, and a mini-symposium – this year on matters of "researchability" and "artistic freedom and research". We examine free spaces as spaces of possibility: the question of artistic restrictions, ways of knowing and unconventional kinds of scope for experimentation in the context of artistic research. The mini-symposium combines keynotes by composers Isabel Mundry and Peter Ablinger, a panel discussion "Leeways and Strictures in Artistic Experimentation" – with Annesley Black, Engin Daglik, Jessica Kaiser and Anne La Berge, which is moderated by Jeremy Woodruff and organised in collaboration with ORF musikprotokoll – and a book presentation by Elisabeth van Treeck. Located at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG), ARTikulationen is co-funded by the State of Styria - Dep. 12 Economy, Tourism, Science and Research. It is directed by Deniz Peters, co-directed and produced by Jeremy Woodruff and Sara Kebe Čerpes, and organised by the Doctoral School for Artistic Research (KWDS).

Over the course of four days you can hear, see, and discuss artistic research presentations from a large variety of fields ranging from current acoustic, electroacoustic, and computer composition, historically informed and contemporary performance. Further highlights of the Festival are four Rigorosa (final doctoral presentations and defenses) by Daniela Braun, Raphael FuscoRoxanne Dykstra, and Adela Liculescu (with an additional full solo piano recital), as well as current research presentations by doctoral candidates Hugo Vasco Reis, Judith FliedlMelody ChuaMaryam MehrabanLorenzo Orsenigo, Zsombor Sidoo, and Po-Yu Wang. The festival character appears not only by way of examples from practice within the presentations, but also in intermezzi (short live and filmed research performances) by doctoral candidates as well as one by flutist and composer Anne La Berge. The event concludes with a closing/farewell session with degree and best practice award announcements. The contributions are in English except where indicated by the German title and notes.
