The research project The Many and the Form explores in various artistic frames how lived experiences can be articulated in and through live performance. Notions of performance as situation, encounter and code-switching are central to the investigation, as are the movements between alienation and socialization, the gathering of strangers and the perspective of the ‘newcomer’.

The research comprises a series of workshops on constructing performative situations, working with knowledges and desires of sociality. The workshops were held for theatre students, artists from other disciplines and participants without previous artistic experience. Practical outcomes of the research include the works created by participants during the workshops and presented in a public festival, as well as an interactive performance for the mobile phone and crowded urban spaces, and a lecture performance on the relationship between dramaturgical thinking and lived experiences of extreme precarity. A set of additional reflective materials opens out to dialogic exchanges with an international range of artists and activists working with related topics and questions, while the other rehearses the archiving of material contributed to the participatory work which this research project builds upon.
