Children of Compost
Repairing urban space - research at Fröttmaninger Berg in Munich and Rösselmühle in Graz - Successful repair for the future?
In the artistic interventions, the memory walks to Fröttmaninger Berg, we find contemporary witnesses who report how they played as children in the 1950s in the mountains of garbage piled up at the time and transformed the apocalyptic world of the city's garbage into their place of adventure.
At the foot of the hill, Sinti and Roma lived in a wagon settlement. Munich's street prostitution was located in the immediate vicinity of the Heilig Kreuz church.
In a one-hour lecture, we will be familiarized with the history of the Heilig Kreuz church, which is located in the immediate vicinity of Fröttmaninger Berg and the Allianz Arena, and which survived imminent demolition twice with the help of citizens' initiatives. With the construction of its architecturally cloned twin by the artist Timm Ulrichs, it has finally fought for its sustainable existence.
In a movement improvisation, the participants of the memory walk were encouraged to instinctively approach the collective knowledge of the place/mountain and transform themselves into animals. The experiences, insights and memories of the group were shared in a discourse that took place at the top of the mountain. Speeches, stories and performative, spontaneous interventions were created.
Blind spot or future-oriented perspective? Is Fröttmaninger Berg a successful example of how new contexts and a city worth living in can be created?
The material from the memory walks on Fröttmaninger Berg is incorporated into the film adaptation and into the workshops and performances associated with the walks in Munich.
In a film installation, a performance developed with local artists and moderated talks, we are using the material developed in Munich in the Rösselmühle in Graz. We see how important artistic processes and strategies as well as moderated communication are for urban development processes.
What threads can we throw out into a common future?
