WAP24 by WAP

WAP24/WALKING AS PRACTIVE Exposition developed by individual artists with in the framework of WAP24. JUNE EDITION: John Schuerman, co-curator/lead walker SEPTEMBER EDITION: Antonia Aitken, co-curator/lead walker The walking scene in Sweden is in the forming or resurfacing. The purpose with this process-based program is to invite (inter)national artists to further this development together with a core-group connected to Björkö Konstnod/BKN. WAP methodology of fieldworks and share sessions are carried out to locate and entangle structures, narratives and forces via the intersection of the arts and walking. The curatorial framework opens up for participating artists to influence the direction and leaned towards new materialism, ie rethinking dualisms through a non-hierarchal approach. Reviewing the development (share sessions, walks, and work made available to public), ”Spaces of Anticipation” is the theme for WAP24. We also foresee that after WAP24 the platform could continue to focus on aspects of artistic research at the cusp of walking and the arts. In 2023 the focus was on "Attentive Walking"

Walking Score: Move Together in a Circle

Prewalk: Johns introducrtion of symbolic value of the circle and reading of text.

Original walk was made on May 21st in conjunction with the experimental pilgim trail >>>

Walk: John lead the group along the forest side of the field. Freddie across , parelell to the road. Anna Viola the side towards the house and Shi Tou back to the starting point.

Post Walk: John asked the group to form a circle and lock arms in siclence

Walking Together as a Circle, June 6, 2024, Led by John Schuerman

Walking Together as a Circle, a walk for unity at Björkö Konstnod artist residency.

Our group included local residents (Sweden), and artists from Lithuania, China, Russia, Germany, Sweden, and the US. Just prior to the walk I read the quote below from Alice Walker. Special Thanks to Jonas Daniel Evicius for translating into Lituanian.

Text read by John at the beginning of the intervention.

Prior to the Campfire we all went down to a rock around the corner from BKN, Dragsviken. Here we introduced ourselfs to one other. And enjoyed the sun and the hot rock.
