SCENE DESCRIPTION

The dancers enter during the blackout. They are positioned on the stage and begin to dance in unison with the same choreography. The lights are red from the side and white from the top. Then duets begin. During them, the sidelights turn blue. One of the two couples leaves the scene leaving the other to dance. The music ends while one of the dancers (of the couple who had gone out) returns to the stage with a chair. End of scene.

MOVEMENT MATERIAL 2

The second part of the choreography is composed of duets so it was not possible to make a video of it. For this reason, I decided to talk about the task that would have been used to be able to create these duets. Some photos would have been shown to the dancers. The photos are static but, despite this, the bodies captured manage to convey a sense of movement. The interesting aspect for me is how from these images you can perceive a sense of constant movement. Our body is never still. Our heart pumps the blood that circulates in the veins and the lungs swell and drain making the chest move. Despite this, these movements are not perceived by us and we are not aware of them. This is the same feeling you get when you have a tic. You are not aware of the movement emitted but at the same time we know we have done it. The dancers, keeping this concept in mind, will have to create a sequence that contains the poses seen in the photos, creating the transitions between one pose and the other. This will create a sequence made by stillness when the dancer performs the position for a few seconds and movement when the dancers perform the transition.

MOVEMENT MATERIAL 1

In the first part of the choreography, the four dancers perform a unison. To create the material, the dancers were asked to think of a trapped body, closed inside itself. Also, they were asked to insert moments in which a part of their body made spasms and sharp movements. The sentences created by them were cut and edited by selecting some moments of the sentences they created. In this way, I made a video showing the unison.

This grid was formed with images in which the dancers had their hands together. The center of the attention is therefore on this connection. The quality of movement is fluid, inspired by contact improvisation and the dancers never stop touching each other. Their connection remains constant. Furthermore, the various poses depicted in the images are repeated more than once to create a sequence that always repeats the same movements but which varies in the transition between one and the other.

This grid of images was created for the duet of the couple who will then remain alone. The connection of the hand's breaks and the two dancers begin to add more acrobatic elements taken from the contact improvisation technique. The quality of movement remains the same but now the dancers are freer to experiment with the transitions. The poses themselves are in motion. The dancers are in continuous movement and there are no longer moments of stillness.
