reconstruction iv/intimate measures is a work for the small format in the sense that is written for a piano, a cello and a sewing machine for a small room with space for only a few audience members. Behind the musicians a screen shows close up live video of the stitches on the sewing machine
In the context of industrial textile production, the domestic sewing machine is a relatively silent machine. However it was also a very important tool in the development of textile production in the home. This applies to the sewing machine both as a tool for sewing one's own clothes and as an early opportunity to work with industrial production at home. For a long time, parts of textile production were outsourced to various private individuals in their own homes on a piecework basis. In our time the sewing machine has undergone a renaissance, with environmental awareness and reuse, and in the COVID pandemic also as a production unit for face masks in many private homes.
reconstruction iv/intimate measures was written for Alpaca Ensemble and was premiered in Oslo, Sentralen in January 25th 2024.
At ARW the work was performed at Skolegata 24 (privat home) October 22nd and at Cinemateket October 23rd.
