reconstruction ii/the textile factory is a multimedia work based on industrial sounds and the movements of industrial machines. The performance uses the actual sounds of the textile industry and constructed compositional equivalents. The instrumental material consists of composed industrial sounds for the ensemble, rooted in textile machines of various kinds.
The video material shows old industrial machines mixed with close-ups of the mechanics of the instruments. The mechanical movement of both the machines and the instruments forms the visual material of the work. At the same time, the use of the physical instruments also has a visual character: the contrabass clarinets are large, shiny tubes with a unique physicality. The piano has complicated internal mechanics, and both bassoons and strings have distinct physical movement patterns.
reconstruction ii/the textile factory recovers the lost soundscapes of industry and brings them to the stage. The work was premiered by the Alpaca Ensemble at Rosendal Theatre in Trondheim December 14th 2022.
At ARW 2024 the work was performed at Dokkhuset Thursday October 24th.
