"We analysed a 2017 book from the publisher Leya, for the first year of Social & Environmental Studies. We noticed that the characters are mostly represented only by their faces or mid-shots. That is, there are few scenes where they are engaged in activities that provide an understanding of the context in which they are participating. Out of 19 characters, 10 are girls and 9 are boys. There are 4 of African descent, 1 Asian, and the rest are white. We observed that the girls are still dressed in pink and the boys in blue, everything very stereotypically distributed... We also understand that due to the context of... where they are teaching, older people do not appear. However, we identified the lack of representation of the Romani ethnicity, for example, an ethnicity we have in Portugal, and there are also others that are not represented. So that's it. Oh! And in our book, it is a boy who is running away from the dog and not a girl."

Do you feel a balance of genders represented?

Do you agree with the feelings associated to each person?

Can you distinguish the stereotypes in the representations?

Who/why is missing?
