THE ARCHIPELAGO
WATER
The water has a pH value of 7.0 (neutral) or slightly lower, to be compared with approximately 8.0 for seawater. Together with humic substances this sometimes causes a bit brownish water colour, especially in the inner parts. The salinity varies between freshwater and brackish water with poor salinity. In the outer parts of the archipelago, the salinity reaches around 0.6–0.7 per cent by weight, to be compared with at least 1.5 for beginning to taste salty and around 3.0 or more for proper oceanic water. Sea ice is regularly formed in the inner parts every winter
GEO
The archipelago extends from Stockholm roughly 60 kilometres (37 miles) to the east. In a north–south direction, it mainly follows the coastline of the Södermanland and Uppland provinces, reaching roughly from Öja island, south of Nynäshamn, to Väddö, north of Norrtälje. It is separated from Åland by a stretch of water named South Kvarken.
New reefs and shoals that rise out of the water require an update of the charts with at least approximately 25-year intervals in order to be able to show the required accuracy in water depth. The water depth is also greatly affected by the prevailing air pressure over the Baltic Sea in relation to the air pressure in the North Sea, strong winds that push water in or out of the Baltic Sea and the average sea level in the world's oceans which continuously varies. Altogether, this gives a variation of about ±0.5 meters in relation to mean sea level over a year.

BJÖRKÖ
Formerlyt an island (and is destin to be again) in Norrtälje municipality , now merged with the island Väddö. Björkö is mentioned in writing for the first time in 1409 (Birke thinglagh), then in a Räfsteting protocol. [ 1 ] By all accounts, the island does not have ancient settlements. During the 18th century, however, several of the farmers and fishermen became rich through peasant secession . At first, sandstone was mainly supplied to the blast furnaces in Uppland and for millstones. During the 20th century, they switched to supplying paving stones instead. The wealthier shipowner families on the island came to be known as the "Björk Island nobility".
In 1848, the road bank that joined Björkö with Väddö was built on the initiative of Matts Pehrsson in Öster Edsvik, who during the Crimean War built up a considerable fortune as a shipowner. He married the daughter of the foremost galley builder on the island, Olof Pehrsson in Stridsby. Another important shipping village was Söder Marum, where in 1825 the inhabitants owned 7 two-masted schooners and a yacht . The shipping crisis of 1873 meant great difficulties for the islanders. A certain compensation came with the nascent tourism when many started renting out houses to summer guests. In 1907, the city of Stockholm opened Finala stenhuggeri for the production of paving stones on the Stora Änklingen peninsula, where at most 60 workers were employed. As early as 1923, however, quarrying ceased. At Simpnäsa pilot station was opened in 1915, which was moved to Kapellskär in 1996 . The Björkö-Arholma Sailors' Association, founded in 1891, opened a museum in Marum in 1951, which was moved to Simpnäsviken in 1980. During a period at the beginning of the Åland traffic, Rederi AB Slite operated traffic between Simpnäs and Mariehamn.
Björkö-Arholma church was built on Björkö in 1890 as a chapel for the Björkö Evangelical-Lutheran Mission Society and from 1905 became a chapel in the Church of Sweden. In 1914, Björkö, together with Arholma, was separated from the Vätö parish and formed its own parish. As the church is mainly surrounded by hills, the cemetery was built at Marum a few kilometers to the south. Near the church is Dragsviken, which almost meets the former Kullboviken bay . There used to be a route here where boats were pulled across the isthmus to shorten the journey.
On the southern part of Björkö towards Kullboviken are several older farms. Blekunge farm was built as a shipping and shipbuilding farm in 1840, the windmill at the farm dates from 1812. Nedre Kullagården was built in 1842 by Jan Mattsson, who became widely known for his expensive habits before he later went bankrupt. Södra Kullagården by the country road is also a more equestrian stable with a main building from 1839 and a smaller peasant cottage. The barn next to the road is over 70 meters long. Near Rumshamn, where the artist Harald Lindberg was born, there is a cholera cemetery . At the village of Skeppsmyra is the farm Lyckhem, which was originally a shipping farm but was bought in 1904 by a returning Swedish-American. He had with him the scaled-down replica of the Statue of Libertywhich now stands in front of the main building. In 1916, Lyckhem was converted into a boarding house and later the farm was converted into a hostel with the associated Skeppsmyra campsite. Lyckhem's guest pier is located at Sterbnäsviken where there used to be a merchant's stall, which also functioned as a maple tavern. At the end of the Second World War, a group of Estonian refugees from the Rå Islands arrived at Ängholmen in the far south of the island , some of whom settled here on Björkö.

ALLEMANSRÄTTEN
Freedom to Roam - Right of public access´
In practice, allemansrätten is defined as actions that are not crimes, will not make a person liable to pay damages, nor can be prohibited by any authority.[15] As in other Nordic countries, the Swedish right to roam comes with an equal emphasis being placed upon the responsibility to look after the countryside; the maxim is "do not disturb, do not destroy". Many Swedish people consider this to be a form of legacy or human right.

LOCAL WALKING
Trail walking in Sweden is very popular also tro roam off the beaten track. Both local initiatives, municipallities and the state has a plenty of information on this. Björkö has in 2023 no marked trails. Sometmes they are not even on the map at times the forest is so dense that your only way of walking is to follow powerlines or animal trails.
Below are some examples of trails more to be found under WALKS more creative or attentative walks are in the category SCORES.
