What object have you chosen and why?
I brought a golden necklace with the hand of fatima also known as a hamza hand. It comes from the islam and Judiïsm. It’s for good luck
I got it for my high school graduation from my mother. I wear it 9 out of 10 days.
What is your fondest memory?
I don’t really have one specific memory, because I wear it all the time and it’s just the present of it and a reminder of my family. They are really important to me
How did you react when she gave it to you?
Very happy, because I had already seen it in my mother sock drawer, so I knew she was going to give it to me. I actually had one since I was nine, I bought it in Marrakesh in the gold district, but a few years later the gold started to peel off, so it wasn’t actual gold, so I was really happy with a new one and also a more beautiful one.
Is there a reason why you wanted this symbol specifically?
My mother studied Arabic languages when she was young and there for she’s got a real connection to arab countriesl, so she bought one for herself and then she started buying them for all her children. Even my aunt and uncle have one, so it’s really a family thing.
Do you think you’ll pass this tradition on?
yes definitely, even if I don’t get children I would want my partner to have one as well. One of my best friends also has it.
