Narratives of Affection

Understanding the affections that my students are, were, and will be subjected to, I incorporated ethical ideas for the critical arts-based pedagogical approaches from The Cultural Politics of Emotion (Ahmed, 2013). I focused on queer love, fear, and disgust.

In terms of lesson planning for each grade, I incorporated Desai (2002) who explains the importance of the historic context in relation to the critical theory linked to art (p. 307). She challenges the idea of a ‘self-referential art object’ (p. 309) suggesting a move towards a collaborative processual process.

Regarding the use of visual narratives, and drawings of characters, especially in comics, I witnessed how this facilitates the understanding of a theme, allows visual thinking, and break the formality of time and space. Through characters, the audience easily identifies with them (Navarro Martínez, 2017: 109 - 196).
