CONCLUSION

To conclude this research exposition, I will address the initial questions that sparked this journey. At its outset, the scope of this endeavor felt daunting, prompting moments of self-doubt where I considered settling for less challenging aims within my comfort zone. Yet, as I articulate these conclusions, I find pride in having successfully addressed each of these fundamental questions and, thankfully, in having pursued every aspiration without compromise.

 

How can I integrate a social element in my classical performance?

I can integrate a social element first by studying it very carefully, by talking directly with a person who has experienced or is experiencing that social element or social situation. This was the case with Clara, who told me about her story, answered all my questions, and wanted with her whole self to share a part of her life with me. Thanks to this interview, I was able to see and study emotions from all the perspectives that Clara offered, thus being able to look for those same nuances in the piano works that seemed most apt to me. Through the exploration of Psychodrama therapy, I adopted its structural elements and roles to reshape the traditional concert format, thereby weaving together a musical repertoire with the intimate narratives of individuals. Onstage, artists share the power to seamlessly blend entertainment with moments of profound reflection. This creative freedom allows us to curate experiences that transcend the traditional performance, enabling us to share crucial insights and provoke contemplation among our audience members. As a medium, music possesses the remarkable ability to illuminate and address complex social issues. Ultimately, it is this thoughtful introspection and shared dialogue that promotes personal growth and contributes to our collective improvement.

 

What kind of integration is required?

The kind of integration required is the one which allows us to eviscerate the theme we set out to discuss. In this research, I have proven that this integration can be achieved through corporeal movement, words and images which, through the role of the auxiliary ego, take shape on stage, interacting with the repertoire chosen for the performance.

 

What is a social element?

A social element is the subject of a social nature that one chooses to study: it is the element found in an individual story that can also be experienced by other individuals in society and that, when studied and shared, allows other individuals who have not experienced the same tale to come into contact with a different reality. Using Clara's story as an example, I was able to learn about the questions and states of mind that a person bereaved from the loss by suicide can experience.

 

How can a classical music performance become personal?

A classical performance becomes personal when one intends to construct it using themes and questions that interest the artist and are technically external to the prerogative of the classical context, using unconventional creative modes that allow for the real integration of such themes. In the case of this research, therefore, the performance became personal by deciding to deal with a complex theme of my interest by applying some rules of psychodrama therapy to the form of the piano recital.

 

How can a performance acquire a universal meaning?

A performance can acquire universal meaning when emotions and states of mind are used within it, which can be shared and understood by the audience using directing techniques. In the case of this research, the element that enables the universality of meaning is the role of the Auxiliary Ego which, while maintaining its identity as an individual and representing the story of an external individual, is potentially capable of representing every individuality in the audience.

 

In summary, this research has profoundly shaped my artistic trajectory, illuminating the profound role of a pianist beyond technical mastery. It has been revealed that being a pianist entails more than achieving flawless technical execution; it encompasses the ability to engage with and reflect upon the myriad of social issues surrounding us, translating these insights into artistic expression. Through music, I aspire to forge meaningful connections between societal narratives and artistic expression, sharing with audiences the compelling amalgamation of these two realms.
