Notations in the frame of Contingent Agencies by Mika Elo

This exposition presents the working materials of a series of notations that were conducted in the frame of the Cross Disciplinary Symposum workshop 19–25 September 2022. The symposium was part of Alex Arteaga's and Nikolaaus Gansterer's research project Contingnet Agencies. A text based on these notes will be published in “Contingent Agencies. Inquiring Into the Emergence of Atmospheres” (Hatje Cantz, 2025), edited by Arteaga and Gansterer.

In what sense do these video recordings constitute something like "reflection" in relation to what I here call "notation"?

tentative answers:

1) the moving frame of the video shows the threads as lines that connect and divide the space at the same time as the thread/lines divide the surface of the video image itself.

2) the video recordings repeat the gestures of the notation highlighting at the same time the spatio-temporal sequence of the notational process
