Hi both,

Hoping all is okay your end.

I have been thinking about Plymouth / Bergen collaborations and what has happened...

The highlight for me was hearing about your work when you came to Plymouth...
So, I consider that perhaps we should not be planning a new research venture at all, but to produce visual work together - make, create, and explore something that interests us, that is meaningful to the three of us? - Peter too if he wants to come on board (I have had an email conversation with Peter who I know has his own thoughts of how he would like to move things forward for the three of you.)

I feel that by making we may see a clearer way forward and then we may bring others on board, gradually, mindfully, letting the process take over rather than us planning what should happen? Somehow, I feel that the premise of CRUX was so right - to start, create and reflect and then do it all over again and again and again...

I feel that PS Exploratory was all about that - should we start the KMT / Plymouth 'Design' Exploratory? Should we take our own 'lines for a walk'?

Are you interested in exploring a new way forward?

The sun is shining here, and they forecast a sunny weekend 🙂
Wishing you well,
Best
Vicky

Dear Åse and Dóra,

You must be telepathic!

Only last week I was thinking about suggesting something that we send to each other. My thoughts were with proximity: organizationally (Plymouth KMD), geographically, socially, language (visual/written), thought... but I hadn't got as far as the 'frame/theme'. Your suggestion is excellent! Our minds are in harmony 😁

A question – when you say: What is a letter? do you mean
'a character representing one or more of the sounds used in speech; any of the symbols of an alphabet'
and/or
'a written, typed, or printed communication, sent in an envelope by post or messenger'?????

Either way or both is fine with me.

I am very much enjoying looking at the image that you sent through Åse. It is going on my inspiration Miro page!

What will be interesting is how we respond to the 'letters' that we receive. The number of 'letters' will grow, and I foresee an 'archive' of 'letters' framing 'what is a letter?'

There is so much potential!

I attach a (not very well photographed) print that I did some time ago—printing the spaces between words using leading / furniture in letterpress, which I feel fits the theme ...

I very much look forward to taking this further with the two of you.
All the best
Vicky

Dear Victoria

Dóra and I have also talked a bit about the plans with PS: Exploratory, and in our eagerness to get started we have been thinking about a suggested starting point/a frame/a theme:

What if we started out with asking: What is a letter?

We will all three have someone to send our letters to, we have someone who receive them, and we will feel completely free about whether the content is “readable” (in the “normal” sense of it?) or not. Letters (as a framework) could be explained, collected and investigated in so many different ways … also in response to themes we address in other fora, like Message …

What do you think? Do these thoughts find a resonance in you too?

Best from Åse and Dóra

PS. Attached you will find a try-out from me, from the beginning of March, as I was thinking about messages, letters and their like, and simply just folding sheets of paper
