About this exposition

This research looks at concert curation techniques that were used throughout Western Europe and North America in the late 18th and early 19th centuries to attract new audiences. During this time period several types of public concerts became popular, including concerts in pleasure gardens, salons, and subscription concert series. Would some of these creational techniques also work to attract new audiences today? By examining literature, journal entries, concert programs, and concert reviews from the time period, I have outlined some of the initiatives from the period and how these practices could be useful today. I am also currently experimenting with new programming ideas with my own ensemble, Heliosfero.
