The project ’Demmin – eine Stadt zum Klingen bringen’ (’Demmin – letting a city sound’) explores the history and stories of the German city of Demmin in a dialogue between the local choir, Peenechor, and the site of Haus Demmin. During a two-week workshop the choir and Mareike Dobewall explored how to vocalise other stories, of the inhabitants of Demmin and the two decaying buildings known collectively as Haus Demmin (the ruins of an 11th century fortress and a former mansion). In a sonic dialogue between ageing voices and decaying architecture a vocal performance in the open air was created. Stories, history and fairy tales took new shape through vocal music, and un-listened sound was given presence. The site-determined performance allowed for the memory and the imagination of the visitors and the participants to rise up and become a part of a holistic experience.

The goal of this artistic exploration was not to find the one ‘true’ identity but to understand and cope with the transformation between different roles that challenge the perception of oneself. Who / what exists in between the roles?
Instead of focusing on human subjects, I have used a city as an example for the exploration. The city of Rovaniemi works as the basis of the exploration where different ‘roles’ can be understood. In order to understand the identities of the city, I first mapped the different roles with informal questionnaires and focused on places that were left in between.
The exploration aims to understand what emerges through a compilation of views that focus on something ‘in between’. The aim was to collect video clips that show the gaps and the places in between the well-known and recognizable locations. The interest of this exploration was to understand what can be revealed through focusing on the unnoticed or disregarded.

This exposition is in progress and its share status is: visible to all.
This research studies daily experiences of caring activities (nourishment) through sound. The aim is to reclaim their value and place within academic studies and epistemology, as well as to document those customs that are slowly fading away. Specifically, it has been chosen the elaboration of ajoblanco (typical south-Spanish food), as it is traditionally prepared with a wood mortar. This object is also used as a musical instrument in Extremadura’s traditional music, which reveals the curiosity around its sound. Furthermore, this research considers spaces and the way of thinking of them from a sound point of view. In conclusion, rural women’s individuality and subjectivity is studied through different ways of making ajoblanco and its soundcape.
