The sky was dark when we got there.
Somehow I already knew
that this city was going to be a disappointment.
The man who picked us up had golden teeth.
Like a gypsy.
In some ways he looked like
the men back home.
And still not.
In the film Lucky One, we wanted to expand the documentary, essayistic storytelling introduced in Belleville Baby, but this time using a fictional story with several narrative layers and a clearly articulated investigation of the potentials of visual silence.
The scenario was written as a manuscript, with narrative voices and dialogues in multiple languages. There were no scene instructions or finalized ideas about how the scenes should be staged visually. Our work centered on a loosely arranged and flexible manifesto of what visual silence might be and from the desire to create something new.
The project became a concrete act of resistance, aesthetically and ethically to traditional cinematic history.
- On s'arrête un peu?
- Non, pourquoi?
- Je ne sais pas...
Je vois pas oú ça va aller.
- Mais c'est ton historie. Tu vas pas te degonfler maintenant?
- C'est ton histoire aussi.
- Et alors? C'est trop tard pour s'arrêter.
