Notation

 

     There are three primary ways to show the notation of the prolonged touch. All of them involve multiple notes forming a chord. How they are notated is the primary difference then. The three are the French style, the slur, and the simplified French style. However, in the next two chapters, examples from two treatises will be encountered that do not use any of these notational systems but rather depend on the performer recognizing specific types of note groupings.
