Part I: Introduction


In part I of this research I will start by briefly describing the process and the initial idea for my master research in chapter 1.1 and explain why I decided to withdraw this idea. In chapter 1.2 I will describe my personal development as a musician and the role theory lessons played in my education as a pianist and theorist. I believe it is useful to mention this kind of biographical elements in order to explain my motivation to write this research. In chapter 1.3 I will discuss the context of the research. How are theory lessons today and what is asked from pianists nowadays? In the last chapter of this first part I will present the research question and describe the research methodology.
