Performative exists thanks to the introduction of J.L. Austin of the word “performativity” in a lecture series entitled “How to do things with words”. Performative verbs are those which do an action by saying the word in the right context. An example is to say “I promise” in front of a magistrate. 


Later on this concept was introduced in the field of art allowing artists to take action in galleries shows. The essential difference between performance art and theater is that while the second one stands for representation, the first one does not create a character, rather it presents an action isolated from the context. It's an hybrid art. 


The performance studies amplified the concept to observe antique rituals and cultural performances, meaning that actions can actually help do transitions in life and actions in society like marriages or more domestic habits such as a check in airport can be studied as performances that built our society. Liminality is the characteristic of them.  


Gender studies also took the concept to day to day life pointing out that there´s no performer prior to the performance, the performance is performative in this case because it transforms the subject´s gender and role in society. With each single action like dressing and gesture we are transforming ourselves. 


Transdisciplinary artist applied the performativity concept to give more depth to creative business mentoring in order to help creatives, researchers and entrepreneurs to build a well grounded paradigm that can be differentiated both from rationalistics approaches and spiritual ones. For her is not only a concept but a whole paradigm that can shape our reality if we overcome the dichotomous thinking and apply a performative method. 


Performative paradigm brings clarity and trust to the process that is unfolding when we are in the path of personal development that all business implies. Performative paradigm implies the reading of the language because the language creates reality. But this is not a language disconnected from materiality, by contrast all the objects, spaces and the feelings that they invoke on us are related in a dynamic, combinational and synchronicity mode. 


Lastly, but not less important, performativity as made of language is truly engaged with sexuality because the body is in the spotlight as a land of expression, transformation and interconnection between the different layers of sexual drive. Sexuality is not only genitalia, it is language and mutant force. Lovesexanddesire is a performative choreography, is the paradigm that we need to deal with in order to integrate our power as human beings.
