Background

In December 2021 the advisory report of Susanne van Els was published and shared with the teaching community of the School for Young Talent, Royal Conservatoire of the Hague (YoungKC). Talent in de kunsten: de Interfaculteit van de HdK relevant en succesvol. Een advies voor het Jong Talent programma van het Koninklijk Conservatorium en de Hogeschool der Kunsten.

The report addressed the future of instrumental and vocal learning and teaching within the context of the YoungKC. The report included an attachment document compiled by Susan Williams and Irma Kort outlining a holistic approach to help young musicians learn how to learn in a healthy way. Underlying learning theories of this vision included the Self-determination theory, Self-regulation, Quality Practice, Cooperative learning and Computer supportive collaborative learning.

In April 2023 the co-ordinator of music for the Young  KC – Annick van Gennep – invited Irma Kort and Susan Williams to come up with a program to answer the needs outlined in Susanne van Els’ document and according to their ideas they had presented.
