For the Hus25 exposition, several stills from the documentary The Spectacle are used for the cyanotype photography process.
Cyanotype is a contact print made by exposing UV-reactive chemicals to sunlight. In this process, digital negatives from the stills of The Spectacle were printed and arranged onto chemical-painted paper, then placed in the sun for several minutes (ranging from 7 to 10 minutes). The UV rays from the sun reacted with the chemicals on the paper, creating a cyan-blue background.
This technique requires close collaboration with nature, as the sun ultimately paints the artwork, inviting us to cultivate sensitivity towards the moods and rhythms of nature.
In the tapestry of collaborative artistic practice, we find ourselves immersed in a dynamic interplay between the self, others, and the world around us. As we traverse this landscape, guided by the principles of co-creation, using co-poiesis as a starting point, we uncover profound insights into the nature of creativity and human connection.
Collaboration can serve as a beacon, illuminating pathways to deeper engagement with others, and our surroundings, by using and opening our senses. Through the collective exchange of ideas, perspective, and authorship, we cultivate a heightened awareness of the nuances of our environment. This sensory journey can enrich our creative endeavors, infusing them with depth, texture, and resonance.
Nature, in this study focused on sites, emerges as a vital collaborator in our artistic practice, offering inspiration, and a sense of interconnectedness. By embracing the rhythms, patterns, and cyclical transformations of the natural world, we can honor its intrinsic value and cultivate a deeper sense of harmony. Through practices like cyanotype and sensory exploration, we can deepen our appreciation for the beauty and complexity of our environment. The use of technical equipment, like a camera and sound recorder, can also contribute to this growing awareness.
Furthermore, in a collaborative practice, there are several other ways to engage the senses. By exploring alternative communication tools that transcend the limitations of language, a collaborative practice can cultivate openness. Crafting a manifesto allows collaborators to establish a shared starting point, serving as a foundation throughout the creative journey. Additionally, techniques such as analogue editing, musical conversation pieces, and shared references can further contribute to this endeavor.
