Drift Engine + Jonas Sjøvaag & António Augusto Aguiar

Wednesday, May 7, 2025 - 19:00
Venue: Aula Magna, Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto

Jonas Sjøvaag (drums) and António Augusto Aguiar (bass) will explore the boundaries of live improvisation, creating a musical experience shaped by human intuition and algorithmic sound generation coming from the Drift Engine, a generative music system made by Sjøvaag.

The Drift Engine produces an evolving harmonic soundscape that the musicians respond to in real-time. The script is written in Python and currently outputs OSC data to a supercollider synth.

Ensemble³ invites the audience into a sonic dialogue—an unfolding collaboration between two improvising musicians and a non-human counterpart, where listening and response take precedence over control or direction.
