a few thoughts

On my way to the conservatory, I saw a poster at the local library at Holmen (the area where most art schools are located in Copenhagen). The poster read: "Ancient Egypt meets Danish Design." This immediately made me think about my own project. The idea of "Ancient Persia meets European electronic music" doesn’t convey a clear sense of what the result might sound like, given the broad scope of European electronic music.

I felt a twinge of envy because furniture design, as a functional art form, is something in which Denmark has a well-established identity. To my knowledge, Danish music doesn't have an identity of the same caliber. When I think of music in Denmark, aside from Danish-language singer-songwriter music or the boarding school songbook (højskolesangbogen), it usually falls under the broad term of Western music.

I might be wrong, but it seems that Denmark doesn’t have a unique identity as a successful exporter of music with a distinct aesthetic that can be identified as uniquely Danish.

Danish music often draws from other cultures and integrates those influences.

That said, Denmark does have a rich history of stars in various genres, including American jazz legends who moved to Copenhagen to immerse themselves in the vibrant jazz community that once thrived here.
