Results and Conclusions

The idea for CCC module came from Kopecky attending the Artistic Research EPARM conference in Graz in 2015 where a key discussion point was how to introduce first and second level (i.e. bachelor and master's students) to Artistic Research.

While well-funded third cycle (doctoral) programs in Artistic Research already exist in major Austrian public and private music universities, particularly in Vienna, Graz, Linz, and now in Salzburg and Klagenfurt, there is less organization and clarity on how to prepare and encourage students at Austrian universities to begin experimenting creatively in the interplay between arts, scholarship and reflexive personal expression at earlier stages in their careers.

This is, in part, a structural issues. There are no funding schemes designed specifically to support pragmatic endeavors where performing arts and  scholarship are joined in equal partnership at the University level, and inter-departmental collaboration depends strongly on the personal initiatives of head faculty, who may not have sufficient departmental funds to cover these 'extra' endeavors.

In the case of CCC, it was generously supported by the 'Plattform Gender_mdw', an independant body supporting projects, education and diversity strategies throughout the University. Additional funding was thanks to the goodwill of two department heads: Judith Kopedky at the Antonio Salieri Department for Vocal Studies and Vocal Research in Music Education, and Melanie Unseld, department head of the Department of Musicology and Performance Studies (IMI).
