As mentioned, the modal notations introduced in this research function similarly to jazz chord symbols, serving as a communication foundation. They can refer to modal frameworks, guiding the improvisation and interaction among the musicians. This approach allowed for a dynamic and cohesive performance, with the modal notations providing a clear structure and reference point for the improvisers.
Presented here is an example where the Setar player, Soroosh Ghahramanloo, improvises over accompanying bass and drums, utilizing the appropriate modal notations as determined by the composer, Bamdad Xosh.
