Ghana – July 2019

Fieldnote: At a salon in Accra. Hair washing cost 8 cedis, far less than the 15 cedis Keziah thought it cost at another salon they went to, which was much fancier.

I think Keziah’s hairstyle cost about 30 cedis, including the actual hair for the braided bun and the styling.

Keziah spotted a product that her friend Belinda uses, that is really good for hair, but it costs a lot (about 20-30 Euros?) in Hamburg. The woman at the salon said it costs 18 cedis (3 Euros?), and that she could source one for Keziah if she wanted.

The woman also showed Keziah a wig with fine braids. Keziah told me she might get one made. Her mum has one, they’re really good in the winter, they keep you warm, and they're much cheaper here in Ghana (I think about 200 cedis?) than in Germany.
