should be improved:

-Tilburg focus:

can be asked about Tilburg events, and buildings in one question by reminding their culture to make the question more understandable.

but also emphasizing what is personal works for better engagement with the city: comparing other cities (remind the other cities in the questionnaire,

multiplicity and keywords have different meanings depending on cultural context

-This can be emphasized at the end of the experiment.  What cities were you comparing with this city?  (How did you characterize the space (place)?- participant's desire towards the city of Tilburg.)

-can be asked about Tilburg city center map: have you been in this area, what do you expect to see here? and they will be said to be inside this area but don't be navigated with this map.

-revision needed. they focused too much on the keywords, which they perceived as a direct task.

I prefer they capture what is distinctive, diverse, and unique to them, but different from the experience of a tourist. And more freely and creatively. I want to learn what is multiplicity in Tilburg in their perspective.

-search for beyond student identity

-don't go into sense of belonging

direction:

the conflict between designated and appropriated: multiplicity vs singularism

the city, participants, participants in the city and their perspectives on the city

questions:

what kind of multiplicity? is it cultural diversity, the alteration in the buildings? this can be open-ended. multiplicity can have different connotations in personal level.

strength:

-following the themes in Invisible Cities

-45 mins walk instead of 20 mins

-starting point train station but guide people from Whatsapp: an experience of a foreigner

-mapping was a different experience for them and they gained different perspectives on the mapping process

-ask who wants to record sound, and who wants to take photos? (to give a focus)

other comments:

-the experiment is similar to a mindfulness exercise

Questionnaire

https://5vnvnd8owlw.typeform.com/to/uKm3eaod

-Where do you come from?

-How long have you been in Tilburg?

-What comes to your mind when I say Tilburg’s identity?

-What significant events or moments in Tilburg's past do you know of?

-What buildings, monuments, street art or public installations in Tilburg remind you of its history and culture?

-How might Tilburg's identity evolve over the years?

-How does your personal background or culture influence your perception of Tilburg, can you give an example?

-How the word ‘international’ resonate with you?

-max. 3 words come to your mind about ‘multiplicity’:

-max. 3 words come to your mind about ‘singularity’:

Last but not least:

-How is your mood today?

In this experiment, the focus on emotions is more obvious. However, I sense people started their experiment more anxious. Because I started the experiment on Whatsapp. Nobody knew each other. On the other hand, the last session ended quite well, people talked to each other and listened to each other. One of the participants wanted to leave the session early but while we are talking about the maps, she stayed and attend the sharing session. Participants are generally anxious about the timing of the day.

should be improved:

-Not all the tasks are done by each participant, they focused on one thing and do that. Although it is not obligatory, I search for the reasons. Maybe, they need more focus and direction. Participants can use props to document their walk.

-How can tasks be more clear, and simple and make participants focused?

-What task can be given more specifically to the area?

-How can memory, place, and desire be elaborated better? I don't think these themes have meaning or contribute something to participants. However, it is more interesting to focus on how the city is constructed through the themes of memory, place, and desire. Until now, I heard that mapping the walk is the most interesting part. Mapping experience is part of participants' own memory, place, and desire experience while they explore the city with these terms. They observe the construction while they are constructing new spaces. So mapping is at the center of the emancipation of participants. If participants acknowledge these themes either in the introduction or last session could contribute to the whole. There is no need to categorize memory, place, or desire. So they can be involved both in the questionnaire and walking tasks?

-How can multiplicity be elaborated better? Multiplicity was to criticize the monumental city until now. I am still not sure what is the base of multiplicity. what kind of multiplicity? is it cultural diversity, or the alteration in the buildings? this can be open-ended. multiplicity can have different connotations in a personal level.

-transcultural. What cities were you comparing with this city?

-can be asked about Tilburg city center map: have you been in this area, what do you expect to see here? and they will be said to be inside this area but don't be navigated with this map.

-leave participants free and don't push them to use real map to deconstruct is better.

direction:

-the conflict between designated and appropriated: multiplicity vs singularism

-transcultural?

-the city, participants, participants in the city and their perspectives on the city, participants' tactic

-specific tasks to the area

strength:

-meeting and drawing together

-45-60 mins walk

-starting point train station and meet people physically

-focus on mapping

-ask who wants to record sound, and who wants to take photos? (to give a focus)

Nisan is said to use only pencils.

Mert is said to use real map if he wants by cutting.

In this experiment, firstly we met in the library. I explained the tasks. The documentation of participants was clearer. They all followed their impulses, not forcing themselves to do all the tasks. People in the group know each other, and they are classical music students in Fontys.

should be improved:

-specific tasks to the area: green and red area should be impoved

-How can multiplicity be elaborated better? Multiplicity was to criticize the monumental city until now. I am still not sure what is the base of multiplicity. what kind of multiplicity? is it cultural diversity, or the alteration in the buildings? this can be open-ended. multiplicity can have different connotations in a personal level.

-motivating them what they actually find from their unique experience in meeting sessions. focusing their own perspective can help, how did they look, what happened?

-One of participants said she was already knew the place, then at the end of the session she said she explored different aspects of Tilburg. However, participants can be motivated at the beginning of the experiment, open their gaze and see if they explore something different, focus is their relationship with the environment.

direction:

-the conflict between designated and appropriated: multiplicity vs singularism

-the city, participants, participants in the city and their perspectives on the city, participants' tactic

strength:

-meeting and drawing together

-45-60 mins walk

-meet people physically

-focus on mapping

-tasks are more clear, participants come with clearer documentation and so they give more clear feedback

-give space for freedom

-focusing on doing but not giving so much information

-the special task of the purple area. feeling atmosphere, finding a connection with the past-role playing

-participants walked in different areas, when participants walk in the same area the experiment is become more interesting, because we're more curious what the other find in the same area, same experiment
