Into the Future

So, what did I bring with me from this research programme?

- Instrumentally and conceptually the two years of research helped further development and overall strengthen my artistic practice.

- Becoming aware of the importance of tactility to me when producing sound is something I will dive into further, and it feels like it's part of the core of my musicality and general outlook in life. This awareness have brought many new questions I imagine for instance that I will be thinking about and experimenting with gestures after this course is concluded, to see if there are discoveries that will be useful and inspiring and enhance the tactile experience of what I'm doing.

- I have spent my life playing music on the guitar since I was 12, when I fell in love with the instrument first. I still love the guitar in all it's iterations. As a result of my research, I feel that I have dug deeper into what that instrument means to me as an object for expression, and both transformed the instrument and redefined my relationship with it. Discovering the full potential of it for me lies in the future still. At the same time as I feel like I've transformed my instrument into something new, I feel that it's even deeper connected to the past of it, to the true nature of it's core. I hope to honor and carry with me the music of those who shared their experiences through sound in times before mine, into the future.

-The signal chain part of my setup that i rethought and built will allow for much better flow, flexibility and depth. It feels like meeting an with an old friend already when I play it, so I look forward to get to deeping my relation to this new instrument.

- I have accumulated a vast amount of recorded material during my project. I have a strong feeling that as soon as it is concluded, I will start working with the material and create a piece of work to share with the world. There's material for several albums worth.

- In terms of spatiality I look forward to try out my new ideas and putting them into the world outside this academic frame. My visions of how I would like to engage with and approach a space and an audience, and how I see myself as an artist in society have greatly matured and materialized during the project. I'd like to play in all kinds of different spaces for all kinds of people, and engage with them in discovering the room in sound, together.

- In closing, I'll let three of my musical forefathers get the last words, bring them from the past into the future:

"I deny that there is such a thing as originality. All an artis can do is bring his personality to bear. If he is true to himself, he can't help but be different, even unique, for no two persons are alike. I do not strive to be different for the sake of being different, but do not mind being different if my difference is the result of being myself." - Moondog.

Won't somebody tell me, answer if you can!
Want somebody tell me, what is the soul of a man
I'm going to ask the question, answer if you can
If anybody here can tell me, what is the soul of a man?
I've traveled in different countries, I've traveled foreign lands
I've found nobody to tell me, what is the soul of a man"
Blind Willie Johnson

"Originality cannot be a goal, it is simply inevitable. The truly pathbreaking step can never be predicted, and certainly not by the person who makes it at the time he makes it. He clears as he goes, evolves his own techniques, devises his own tools, ignores where he must. And his path cannot be retraced, because each of us is an original being." - Harry Partch.
