Ivar Frounberg: Waves and velocities at dawn and dusk (2003 - 2007)

IVAR FROUNBERG is currently senior professor in composition at the Norwegian Academy of Music, Oslo, Norway.

"The quartertone marimba in itself possesses a great deal of interesting sonorities, as it combines the 24 pitch classes of the octave. In addition it can become a hyper-instrument, using sensors and motion tracking that can be linked to sound processors. Kjell Tore's project is now also combining these possibilities with video - WHY NOT? This is an instrument with so many aspects to investigate and new ways of giving the audience a total experience for both ears and eyes."

The piece is a part of a research project by Ivar Frounberg and Kjell Tore Innervik, about improvisation, the development of new instruments and of music technology issues such as the organization of sound patches.
