Laura Garbers (1987, Germany) was born in Lüneburg. Since 2006 she has been a student of the Muthesius Kunsthochschule, Kiel and is now in her MA studies there.
The daily needs of washing and eating are what encompassed the workers' shifts - they interrupted and concluded their workdays. These moments and gestures took place and are, though they are external to the production process itself, an integral part of the history of the industrial period.
Sculptural objects can embody the cultural act and the rituals of everyday needs and link the private washing from the past with the communal washing of the workers in the large washing rooms of factories.
The topics of my work are the gestures involved in everyday needs and the social circumstances of the industrial period. The washbowl and jug set is an entity that was once common in the private household but has today become obsolete.
