BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES ABOUT ARNULF CHRISTIAN MATTES
Arnulf Christian Mattes is associated professor and leader of the Grieg Research Centre at the University of Bergen. He studied cello at the Staatliche Musikhochschule Trossingen (Trossingen University of Music).
Mattes received his PhD at the University of Oslo with a dissertation on Schoenberg's chamber music from his years in USA. Since then, he has received research grants from the Norwegian Research Council (NFR) for projects on the Schoenberg school’s performance practice and on the Norwegian modernist, Fartein Valen. Mattes has published in journals such as Twentieth-Century Music, Archiv für Musikwissenschaft, Journal of the Arnold Schoenberg Centre, and History of Humanities. He has also contributed with chapters to anthologies published by Cambridge University Press, Boydell, and Routledge. During the period 2013–2018, Mattes served as editor of Studia Musicologica Norvegica (Norwegian Journal of Musicology).
