Biography

Sidsel Endresenis a Norwegian singer mainly working within improvisation and so-called «extended vocal techniques».

Her main work: During more than 40 years she has collaborated with a vast number of Norwegian and international musicians - and her work has spanned genres from fusion and jazzrock in the -80’s, via chamber-jazz in the -90’s, to free-improvisation,electronics and contemporary music in the new millennium. She has also worked within theatre, dance and performance as composer and performer, soloed with contemporary symphony orchestras, big-bands, choirs, and in a number of film-scores. She has been composer of various commissions for a.o.: Molde International Jazz Festival, Vossa-Jazz, Bergen NattJazz, BBC/Barbican (GB).

Touring: Endresen has regularly toured, and performed at various festivals, in Scandinavia, Europe, Great Britain, Japan, USA, Canada, and China.

Releases: She has released 18 albums with her own projects/groups on labels such as Sony, Jazzland, ECM, Rune Grammofon, SOFA, ao - and been side-woman on more than 40 albums worldwide. Her main projects, outside of her solo work, include long-term collaborations with musicians like Stian Westerhus, Jan Bang, Vilde&Inga, Christian Wallumrød, Helge Sten, Ståle Storløkken, Thomas Strønen, Bugge Wesseltoft, composer Rolf Wallin a.m.o.

Prizes/Awards: 5 Norwegian «Grammies», the Radka Toneff Memorial Award, the Buddy Award (Norwegian Jazz Federation), Oslo City Artist Award, German Radio’s Artist Award 2016, the Lindeman Award 2017, as well as being nominated twice for the Nordic Council Music Prize (in 2001 and 2011).

Teaching: Endresen currently holds a position as adjunct Professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music.
