Most of the preparation and planning for the performance of JB's cat took place at the piano prior to this recording. The only written contribution can be seen here below:
The harmonic language utilized in this extempore performance of Le Chat du Jean-Baptiste relies heavily on diminished chordal structures, and sounds quite experimental in certain places (from [1:07–1:15] for example). The intention was to create a miniature rondo structure, where the notated motive returns after interspersed contrasting sections but the performance as a whole remains brief.
