I made som collages from plastic stuff and paper cut outs a few weeks ago. What I tried to do was finding material «that had something» (unclear what) that I could use to start making a visual identity to my «department». When I sat there, moving the pieces around, turning them, making compositions – I saw that many of them looks like abstract landscapes. So, I started thinking about nature. After some more time my mind remebered this:
In the 2018 Swedish election the saying «re-drawing the political map» and «re-drawing the political landscape» were used a lot in Swedish media accoring to the huge success of the political party «the Swedish Democrats» – a populistic right right wing party. Back then I got kind of annoyed from media using, or mis-using this expression(s). It was used all the time and by all type of news media.
Anyway, when I thought about his a few weeks ago a also started thinking about that this has some kind of connection to my project. Maybe this is the core, but my project is all about «the Inner Political Landscape» or «the Inner Political Map». Maybe we all have to search into our selves to find out about what we believe in?
Around this time (a few weeks ago) I also learned that Thomas Hobbes wrote a book called Leviathan in 1651. In this book he describes the State of Nature, and that the State has to protect us from this very state of nature. This is the second thought on nature and politics that has strucked me in a short time.
