2 -  My research questions are:

1 - How can jazz composition students expand their understanding of harmony, implement it in their composing, and make a better connection between their intuition and their available knowledge.

2 - Many jazz songs are on the one hand easy to remember and to sing, yet so intriguing and surprising? What do composers do to make that possible?

The method I'll be using will be:

1 - Analysing compositions that have interesting harmonic movement, in conjunction with the melody. To describe them in theoretical terms as well as their emotional connotations.  I will add examples from other compositions where these or similar progressions can be found, zooming in on the relelvant bars that mark the pivital direction of the tune, or that stir special attention.

2 - Interviewing well known contemporary jazz composers about their proces, systems, techniques or sources of inspiration.

3 - Describing my own proces whilst writing. Explaining how I work and which influences inspired (and cotinue to inspire) my compositions, and analyse a few of them.
