Clarity as a hidden imperative of modernism was useful to Enlightenment, for demystifying the modern world. Ambiguity, however, breaks with the notion of a universe of clarity. Opposites blur, ambiguity is given space – through listening, seeing, thinking. The relationship to the observed undergoes change. Time is necessary in order to see something, the intention is to bring out associations.
From September 6th to 10th, the Ars Electronica Festival 2018 dedicated itself to the error, the error and the opportunities it contains, as well as the courage to be imperfect with the title "Error - the Art of Imperfection". The exhibition "Hidden Alliances - Elisabeth Schimana and the IMAfiction Series" presented the portrait series IMAfiction. In 2005, the composer and director of IMA (Institute for Media Archeology) Elisabeth Schimana set out to find artists in the field of electronic music and art. The artist started her search with projects such as „Geschichten“ or „portrait 01 – Die Futuristin“, which she realized together with the Ö1 Kunstradio. This gave rise to the idea for the ten-part portrait series IMAfiction, which includes nine artists and the Ö1 Kunstradio founder Heidi Grundmann:
Liesl Ujvary (A), Rebekah Wilson aka Netotschka Nezvanova (NZ), Heidi Grundmann (A), Eliane Radigue (F), Andrea Sodomka (A), Maryanne Amacher (USA), Anne La Berge (NL), Electric Indigo (A ), Beatriz Ferreyra (AR / F), Elisabeth Schimana (A)
Several events took place as part of the exhibition "Hidden Alliances - Elisabeth Schimana and the IMAfiction Series". Among them on September 6th in the Lentos linz art museum at 5:00 pm "UNSCHÄRFEN - second art conference" that approached the issues of simultaneity, networking and time.
Participants were: Reinhold A. Bertlmann, Doris Ingrisch, Norbert Math, Andrii Pavlov, Elisabeth Schimana, Andrea Sodomka, Florian Tanzer, Rebekah Wilson aka Netotschka Nezvanova and others ...
The event was developed in collaboration with the Ars Electroncia Festival 2018, IMA - Institute for Media Archeology, the Institute for Cultural Management and Gender Studies (IKM) of the mdw Vienna and Ö1 Radio Art - Kunst Radio.
