MUSIC FOR THE INNER EAR
-an explosion of sonic potentiality
In an effort to construct a sound-descriptive non-metaphorical language, free of musical terminology and a minimum amount of cultural reference (an impossible quest) - I recorded concrete sounds, which I then described in words.
The idea was to compile a catalogue, consisting of sound descriptions that later could form the bedrock of the text works.
All humans carry a body, and therefore I tried to categorize the sound in relation to the human body and the different senses.
In order to target a broader group of listeners, I chose that the language used for the text works, should be English and not Danish (my first language).
I had experimented with narrated texts prior to the project, with the result that the speaking voice became a performance in itself, and thereby removed focus from the content of the actual text.
Because of the above-mentioned point, I decided that the texts should meet the listener in the form of a physical book so that the listener could read and listen in their own tempo, and with their own voice.
