Orchestrating Space by Icosahedral Loudspeaker (OSIL) by Gerriet K. Sharma

The project "Orchestrating Space by Icosahedral Loudspeaker" (OSIL) aimed at increasing the practical and theoretical understanding of electroacoustic sound phenomena that are defined by their sculptural-choreographic nature, i.e., exhibiting localization, motion, and extent. Such auditory objects are new means of expression and as such they have already been subject of artistic research in the project "The Choreography of Sounds" (CoS), PEEK AR 41. In particular, the project focused on the icosahedral loudspeaker (IKO) constructed at IEM in order to project auditory objects into rooms, a feature that has already been successfully employed in various sonic art works that have been performed in concerts and installations in different halls and listening situations. Within OSIL artists and scientists were working closely together trying to understand the field of 3D audio better with an multi-perspective approach to foster and extend aesthetical practices in this field.

IKO Cologne-concert

07/10/2016 Gerriet K. Sharma presented mirage 1-6 and his sculptural sound research in a concert recital defending his Dr. artium thesis at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.

The thesis Composing with Sculptural Sound Phenomena in Computermusic and the performance was awarded with summa cum laude.

17/11/2016 OSIL and Sonible met at the Tonmeistertagung (TMT) in Cologne to present the new IKO prototype and severeal research papers and products.

Gerriet K. Sharma performed an IKO concert with mirage 1,4, and 6 at the TH Cologne University of Applied Sciences, Karl-Schüssler Hall.

Cooperation between physicists of the department of Accelerator Physics at the Helmholtz-Centre Berlin (Research-Centre on complex material-systems and energy) and Gerriet K. Sharma.

On 11/01/2016 Gerriet K. Sharma gave a lecture on the beamforming capacities of the IKO and to learn more about the development of BESSY II VSR to conceive a spatial-sound composition based on data and research about the unique production of light beams within the coming years.

At NYEAMF 2016
Gerriet K. Sharma performed the IKO piece grrawe transferred and decoded for 8-channel loudpseaker ring, emulating for the first time the intrinsic IKO effects for a circular setup.

SMC Hamburg 2016

At SMC 2016 Gerriet K. Sharma presented in two concerts the IKO pieces grrawe and firniss transferred and decoded for 8-channel loudspeaker ring.
