Walking along the buffer zone.1

Nicosia, Cyprus, March 20182

Arriwing late, the city is empty, left. Facing the border, in the middle of the street. No passport, no entrance to the other side. The policeman corretcts me: No, it´s not the Turkish part of the city, it is the part occupied by the turkish.

Glasgow, Scotland, November 20173

There is a scarf from Dale in the restaurant. My place becomes your place. You have been walking in the streets, breathing the air, the place belongs to you. I hear stories about Nicosia, my finger tip follow the border at the map, I walk through the place by using Google Maps. By knowing you I start feeling a ownership to the place, I´m not a stranger.

Vaksdal, Bergen, Norway, July 20174

Walking around in my village, Vaksdal. As i present the place for the visitors, I suddenly realize: My place has no souvenirs. What you see, and what I tell, is what you get. My story is about feeling welcome, beeing free. Posting photos on FaceBook, Instagram: I´m loading the place with stories of belonging, community, citizen power.

In between, November 2017

I have to sleep at Schipol Airport, Amsterdam5. It´s uncomfortable. But it brings time to reflect, to dwell with the expressions. How you arrive to a place, and how you leave, influence your experience. For one year I was sailing, arriving new towns by the sea, living in the harbour. I´m thinking of these places as slow places, but it was me who was slow.

Nicosia–Potamia, Cyprus, March 2018

There is a large blinking, Turkish flag in the hill, impossible to overlook. There are two cafees in Potamia, we call one of them the Lenin cafe after the pictures on the walls. Except Lenin there is some of the same mood as in my own village, I believe this is because both Vaksdal and Potamia don´t expect tourists to come and don´t bother to show off. Doors are open, lifes goes on.
