4.2 String height


This is the element which produces the most immediately recognisable contrasts, how how high or low the string is plucked. The notation depicts this with where the curve of the fingertip vertically intersects with the line of the string.

Higher in the middle of the string creates sweeter, brighter sound with less attack.

Low at the bottom of the string has a nuttier, darker sound, with more attack closer to the soundboard.

4.3 Speed of Attack

Between these two heights, there is a warm sound that is well articulated, without the wet soft attack of the high placement, but with longer sustain than the hard attack at the soundboard.
