Society of Artistic Research (SAR)/Uniarts Helsinki: The 8th International Conference on Artistic Research in Helsinki will be held on 28 & 29 April, 2017 at the Theatre Academy in Helsinki. The Conference is hosted by the University of the Arts Helsinki.
The Conference is followed by the General Assembly of the Society for Artistic Research on Sunday 30 April 2017.

1) Performative Presentations

There are two possible timings for performative presentations:
15 minutes presentation + 15 minutes discussion = 30 minutes
30 minutes presentation + 30 minutes discussion = 60 minutes
Please note your preferred timing in your proposal.
2) Text-based Working Groups
Idea? Sketch? Investigation? Please specify!
The texts can range in form and length from a poem to an article of maximum 8,000 words. The texts will be circulated among working group participants before the conference and the authors will make a short presentation about the text in the working group session.
Timing: 10 minutes presentation + 20 minutes discussion / text
3) Interventions
How? Where? When? What? Please specify!
Interventions do not need a formal context and can take place anywhere and anytime in the conference.
4) Collaborative Sessions
Workshop? Discussion? Other? Please specify!
The session can range in length from 1 to 3 hours.
The language of the conference is English.
All proposals will be peer reviewed. There is a possibility of working towards a peer-reviewed exposition to be published in the thematic issue on Specificity of RUUKKU – Studies in artistic research, which is a Research Catalogue journal hosted by the UNIARTS Helsinki. Possible publication languages are English, Finnish and Swedish. Submission deadlines are communicated at the conference.

Society for Artistic Research - How do I become a SAR member?
The Society for Artistic Research (SAR) is an international, non-profit organisation, that is based in Switzerland and seated in Zürich. SAR nurtures, connects and disseminates artistic research as specific practices of creating knowledge and insight. SAR facilitates a range of encounters for its community of artistic practitioners in the pursuit of transformative understanding that impacts on political and societal processes as well as on culture of research and learning.
As a SAR member, you will receive a reduced conference registration fee!
The Spaces
The spaces that are available are a big auditorium, a small black-box studio and several rehearsal studios of different sizes. Also, there is a large public lobby area with an open stage.
We will take into account the type of presentation that you wish to have and allocate the spaces accordingly.
