Short Bio

Sophia Bardoutsou is a pluri-media composer, educator, and researcher based in Rotterdam. Her work engages with the intersection of acoustic sound, digital media, and diverse disciplines. Through interactive media and indeterminacy, she crafts experiences where collaboration and interaction are at the forefront. She is a member of Collective Brownout where she explores composition as a social, rather than an individual, practice, and performance as a research method.

She is currently a professional doctorate fellow of the professorship “Intercultural Performing Arts” at Codarts (Rotterdam). In 2020 she worked as a music teacher and choir conductor in Patras (Greece). In 2019- 20 she was the coordinator of the Composition Lab, at the Ionian University and organized Music Workshops for children, in collaboration with the Historical and Folklore Museum of Longos (2020) and with Paxos Islands Foundation (2015).

She studied Composition with Hans Koolmees and René Uijlenhoet at Codarts University of the Arts (Master’s degree), the Department of Music Studies of Ionian University, Greece (Bachelor’s degree), and the HKU Utrecht Conservatory (exchange student). She attended master classes in music composition with Wim Henderickx and Jorrit Tamminga, in music pedagogy with Clare Hall and Olympia Agalianou, and choral conducting with Maria Guinand and Doreen Rao, among others. She has also studied piano and holds a diploma in Byzantine music.
