DASPA & IETM Aarhus, live and online event (Plenary Meeting)

We presented RELAY inside the frame of IETM Aarhus Plenary Meeting 2023. IETM – International network for contemporary performing arts – is one of the oldest and largest international cultural networks, representing the voice of over 500 performing arts organizations and individual professionals working in the contemporary performing arts worldwide. Our presentation was part of the program category called “Work Sessions”, which included presentations of other European cooperation projects as well as presentations around topics such as “Art and Activism” and “Indigenous Ecological Knowledge” and a workshop on Creative Europe projects.

The presentation gave us the possibility to share both questions and findings that RELAY had produced thus far and to enter in dialogue around the project’s stakes, benefits and challenges. We structured the presentation around the topics that we believe sum up the project, its findings, challenges and processes. These are also the topics that structure our exposition on Research Catalogue: Relaying, Sustainability, Multitude of perspectives, Transformational Practices and Learning. We also included a presentation of the second project result: ARTwork

ARTwork was presented by Maia Means and Max Wallmeier giving an overview of the outcome’s background, goals and methods, with a focus on how the structure suggests continuity and connections across different events, places and groups. The participants were also introduced to the ‘travel score’, a task that has been given to students, mentors and staff on their travels to and from the LTTAs. Wallmeier and Means read out a new score, re-written to fit the context of IETM, so the participants did the sensory tasks and shortly shared experiences with the person next to them. It gave the participants a practical understanding of the proposal, and a different approach to understand the RELAY project as a whole – based on practice and collective experiences.
