This is an exposition presenting the project Year of the Pig, which took place on Harakka island off Helsinki in 2007 and was presented for the first time there in 2008.

Year of the Pig - Sitting on the Cliff I-II (short)

Wrapped in a grey shawl, I sit on the cliffs of Harakka Island’s northwestern shore once a week between 6 January 2007 and 3 February 2008.

In part 1, I face south and look out at the sea.

In part 2, I face north and look towards the city.

Year of the Pig - installation

Three-channel installation (1 h. 22 min.) 2008

I sit on a cliff and face south once a week for a year, and then I look at the cliff. I sit on a cliff and face north once a week for a year, then I look at the cliff. I spin against the city skyline once a week for a year, then I look at the city skyline.

The installation consists of three adjacent projections and two alternating parts:

Part I (41 min 26 sec): I sit on the left, the cliff is in the middle, I spin on the right.

Part II (41 min 26 sec): The cliff is on the left, I sit in the middle, and the city skyline is on the right.

Under the Spruce I - III

Three-channel installation (28 min.) 2008

I sit below the only spruce tree on Harakka Island once a week for over a year (6 January 2007 – 3 February 2008). The video is shot from three angles: the hill, the path and underneath the tree.

The three parts are synchronized to be shown next to each other (in the order of I-II-III from left to right), for example, on monitors placed on three different heights (see image).

The City Skyline Revisited

This video compilation consists of a) Year of the Pig - Weather wane, Year of the Pig - Weather wane (short) and Year of the Pig - Weather wane (mini) as well as b) Day and Night of the Pig I and Autumnal Equinox I and II, inserted in the recording of a revisit, on 4 May 2018, to the site on northwestern shore of Harakka island where they were performed a) weekly between 6.1.2007 and 3.2.2008 and b) every two hours between 22.9.2007 at 4 pm and 23.9.2007 at 4 pm.

This video compilation (25 min) consists of the video installation Year of the Pig - Sitting on the Cliff (4 x 23 min 4 sec) inserted into a recording of a revisit, on 8 August 2018, to the site on the western shore of Harakka Island where the videos in the installation were performed weekly between 6 January 2007 and 3 February 2008.

A two channel installation (4 x 23 min.) 2008

The installation consists of two adjacent projections and two alternating parts:

Part 1. On the left I face south and look out at sea. On the right the cliff towards north.

Part 2. On the left the cliff towards south. On the right I face north and look towards the city.

Sitting in Sand

Wrapped in a grey shawl, I sit at different distances from the camera: on sand and pebbles in the dunes Gran Canaria’s Maspalomas during the last days of the year 2007.

An installation version of the work contains still images printed on aluminium and a shorter version of the video (15 min) without the walking in and out of the image, only sitting in sand.

Part I. Holding a grey shawl and two small torches, I spin against the backdrop of the city on the northwestern cliffs of Harakka Island every two hours for a day and night during the autumnal equinox, between 22 September at 4pm and 23 September at 2pm.
