As is commonly thought, photography and film have elemental similarities but they reframe the object differently in regard to time. Photography represents death and video represents life. Photography mummifies and video animates. What would be the best tool to summon those decayed objects and memories? Photography or video?
What happens if I walk the line between the two?
Just as Hiroshi Sujimoto photographed movies while they played inside theaters in North America, to challenge the elements of time, exposure, duration and diversion. Or Andy Warhol, who filmed the Empire State Building for hours. Or a contradiction; Étienne-Jules Marey’s statement that what he captures is not a representation of motion as it is perceived by the human eye.[4]
