Go public:

Make the North Great Again!

The slogan «Make the North Great Again!» has been used by NORDTING in different ways since 2017. First as text and oral slogan voiced from stage, then as design and visual manifestation, later printed on t-shirts, caps and cups. When Nordnorsk kunstmuseum in 2019 invited NORDTING to do a project at Svalbard — and the covid-situation made in impossible to work with indoor events with audiences — the slogan ended up as art installation in public space; as a 4x4 meters commercial neon sign.

The art installation was opened in Logyear, Svalbard in November 2020, placed on the wall of the emergency power station of the city, hanging through the arctic dark time. The project was a cooperation with Galleri Svalbard in Longyear, and led to a public debate on both art, the slogan itself and on local versus central political power.

In the end of October 2021, the light installation was opened in Nuuk, Kalaallit Nunaat / Greenland, in cooperation with Nuuk Art Museum and the festival Nuuk Nordic. It was displayed in the midle of the pedestrian street in the centre of Nuuk, on the wall of the city library, witch de facto is also the National Library of Greenland, for two months until til beginning of January 2022. In Februar 2022, the installation will open in Kirkenes, Norway, in cooperation with the festival Barents Spektakel. A smaller version of the art work has also been on display in Nordic House Tórshavn, Faroe Islands in November 2021. A Russian version will open outdoors in Murmansk, Russia in February 2022, also in cooperation with Barents Spektakel.
