Fragments is part of the artistic research project rotting sounds, which is dealing with the process of temporal detoriation of digital audio.
Fragments is accompanying the rotting sounds project as a meta layer and documentary project, constantly changing, deconstructing and deiontextualizing artifacts deriving from the reserch process in all kinds of meda and materials.
All those artefacts are existing in the analog and also in the digital domain depending on their nature of appearance. The Reserach catalog will therefore become part of Fragments as an archive and digtial terrain or landscape and will be also part of the research and of the artwork itself, partly self referring and as a meta representation of this process of metamorphosis.
Starting with a wide white terrain, clusterd snippets consisting of all kinds of media will populate the plane surface, free to navigate like on a map and for the own research of a visitor. Some of them acting as a gate to media that is stored in other places like a three dimensional model of the "auditorium of rotting sounds" for example, that is a temporal exhibition space for most of the sonic artworks of the rotting sounds reserach located at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna at this time.
In a process of aestheticization there will be objects sculpted, that appear as a new gestalt of the underlying material in both domains. This process has to be evolved further and will be method and reserarch.
What will happen with all the inherent Infomation in time, that is then decontextualized, deterirorated and needs to be reinterpreted by future generations when found.? Could the information be reassambled in a longer perspective of time, when there might be only data fragments of the information deseminated over and over in the automatic archives of the internet finally stored on some harddrives? Similar questions arise to the sculptures consisting of the granulate from out of the materials in the analog domain, that are vanishing in differnt locations over the passing of decades.
The processual and constantly changing sculpture "Fragments" is in permanent development and consists of artefacts of the Rottings Sounds process. Waste, things collected, things stored and things put aside, texts, pictures, data, sounds etc. are the basis of the shape-changing work. Object or exhibition, museum or archive, collection or documentation are moments of intrinsic research and decomposition, accompanying the process and resting in the distant but immediate eye of the virtual observer.
